The Official State Bulletin (BOE) on Saturday January 21 published a Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA) by the output of the Balearic Islands all plants for planting is prohibited, except seeds, because there are new outbreaks of Xylella fastidiosa. Xylella fastidiosa is a bacterium that has more than 300 hosts and causes serious damage to important crops in our country, such as olive, citrus, grapes, almonds, peaches, as well as numerous ornamental species. It is also one of the main pathogens of quarantine in the European Union.

By Resolution of the Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Fisheries of the Government of the Balearic Islands, of November 25, 2016, an outbreak of Xylella fastidiosa declared in the Community and phytosanitary measures to eradicate and control were adopted.
